A Call for Posters at the 3rd Annual Research Data Access & Preservation Summit (RDAP12, New Orleans, LA, March 22-23) has recently been issued.  Here is a description of RDAP12, taken from its website:

The RDAP summit will explore the following topics: data management plans and policies; training data management practitioners; discovery of research data; data curation service models; sustainability of data management; and data citation.

RDAP will be highly participatory, providing ample opportunities for every attendee to get involved, e.g. “topic tables” at lunch, a “dine-around” dinner, a round of lightning talks, poster sessions, and demonstration sessions.”

RDAP12 will be held in cooperation with the ASIS&T Information Architecture Summit.

The 2nd Annual ACM IHI Symposium is where the application of computer science principles, information science principles, information technology, and communication technology to healthcare will be discussed.  The 2012 conference, opening next week, will feature tracks devoted to 9 broad subject areas:

1. Information technologies for healthcare delivery and management
2. Health data acquisition, management, and visualization 
3. Healthcare knowledge management and decision support
4. Healthcare modeling and simulation
5. Data analytics, data mining, and machine learning
6. Health information system engineering
7. Health information systems
8. Healthcare communication networks and environments
9. Interactions with health information technologies

Healthcare informatics has blossomed into a large and very relevant subject in recent years; this conference will provide a good look at it.

The 8th Annual Data Harmony Users Group Meeting (Albuquerque, NM, February 7-9) will help users get the most from the Data Harmony knowledge management platform.  The first day will be a training session on the 3 components of Data Harmony; the second and third days will present new features and case studies from users.

Users group meetings are specialized events and are good places to network with others interested in a subject and who have made a significant investment in a product, get training, interact with the developers, and keep updated with product advances.  This one is no exception.

The Digital Book World 2012 conference opens next week in New York.  It will feature a lineup of executives and other experts in digital publishing discussing all aspects of e-books.  Even the children’s market will be looked at; a co-located all-day conference, Children’s Publishing Goes Digital will be sponsored by the Publisher’s Launch Conference. on Monday, January 23.  A panel of CEOs discussing lessons learned in digital publishing will feature the following speakers:

• David Nussbaum, Chairman and CEO, F+W Media
• John Ingram, Chairman, Ingram Content Group
• John Donatich, Director, Yale University Press
• Dominique Raccah, CEO and Publisher, Sourcebooks
• Ellen Archer, President, Hyperion

Back in July, I wrote about the Handheld Librarian V Conference.  Now, the 6th conference in the series has been organized.  Registration for Handheld Librarian VI is open.  (Note:  The main conference takes place on February 1.  Post-conference sessions will occur on February 2–see below.)

The morning keynote speaker will be Michael Stephens, Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University, and the afternoon keynoter will be Stephen Abram, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Markets at Gale Cengage Learning.  The general theme of the conference is “Mobile Solutions for Libraries that Work”.

This year, two new post-conference featuring hands-on training are being offered (for an extra fee) on February 2.  The subjects are “Broad Mobile Development, including jQuery” and “Empowering your E-readers; teaching your readers to access content”.  They are each 2 hours long and will take place one after the other, so that it will be possible to attend both of them.

Anyone interested in mobile technologies in libraries is well advised to consider signing up for this conference.  The two keynote speakers are very highly regarded in the information industry.  The registration fee is nominal, so there is nothing not to like!
